Tips and tricks for a safe Prime Day 2 Shopping Haul

Amazon Prime Day is back this October with thousands of deals to shop in this exclusive event for Prime members across the globe.

Early access to fresh gadgets, toys and beauty products began at midnight. While you’re browsing through the best sales to kick off an early shopping season, though, take a moment to prioritize your digital safety.

The Prime Day 2 sales event organized by the e-commerce giant will undoubtedly entice millions of Prime members and attract hordes of digital crooks seeking to exploit shoppers’ impulsiveness or negligence.

Here are Bitdefender’s safety tips to protect you and your data on this two-day online shopping haul:

  • Ensure that your Amazon account is secured with a strong unique password and enable two-factor authentication
  • Be wary of any phone calls mentioning your Amazon Prime account. Fraudsters may contact you in an attempt to trick you into installing malicious software (including spyware) on your device to capture sensitive and financial data
  • Never provide login information or financial data via phone, text or emails to individuals claiming to be Amazon employees. Amazon will never ask you to give out your credit card info over the phone to refund a purchase
  • Be on the lookout for phishing emails purporting to arrive from Amazon, offering you discounts, gift cards, access to hidden deals and fake confirmation orders
  • Don’t respond to urgent emails claiming your Amazon account needs immediate attention, including updating your financial information or login credentials. If you receive any urgent messages, head over to your account and check for any notifications. Of course, don’t access the link or attachment you received in the unsolicited correspondence
  • Inspect any correspondence regarding unauthorized purchases, lost packages, refunds and fake confirmation emails – closely inspect emails or messages for grammar mistakes and unknown email addresses
  • Use a security solution and VPN to help secure your device and data while shopping and to block any malicious or fraudulent links
